Should You Upgrade to XI?

On June 26th, Adobe officially ended support for Acrobat 9 and Reader 9, which means that all security and product updates, as well as technical support, have ended. However, you can upgrade to Acrobat XI if you’d like to continue receiving these benefits.

Your software won’t stop working if you continue to use Acrobat 9 Standard/Pro/Pro Extended or Reader 9; although there are many important facts you should consider.

If you continue using Acrobat 9 you won’t:

  • Receive official support from Adobe,
  • Be able to purchase a support ticket,
  • Be able to call the helpline,
  • Be able to use the online chat service, or
  • Receive updates or security patches.

Reactivation will work as it did previously, but you’ll have to deal with any compatibility problems on your own without help from Adobe.

Why You Should Consider Upgrading to Acrobat XI and Adobe Reader XI

While many customers don’t think they need to upgrade, they should consider the risks associated with running a system that is no longer supported. If you have a licensed copy of Acrobat 9, you’re already eligible for the upgrade discount when you upgrade to Acrobat XI.

If you’re currently using Reader 9, you should consider upgrading to Acrobat Reader XI. It’s a free download, and you’ll have the use of many new features. For example, Reader XI lets you save a modified PDF file, so you can fill in a form and save it locally without the form being Reader-enabled. You can also add text to a document regardless of whether the author enabled the Typewriter Tool.

Acrobat XI With Cloud Services allows you to work virtually from anywhere with Adobe’s online services. The new upgrade is a powerful solution for tackling today’s complex document challenges, and for creating, sharing, consuming and securing PDF content across devices and platforms.

With Acrobat XI, you’ll also enjoy complete PDF editing and export to PowerPoint, and cultivated web-contacting capabilities with Adobe EchoSign.

Adobe FormsCentral is included and allows for forms creation, data collection and analysis. Due to its seamless Microsoft Office and SharePoint integration, rapid PDF conversion, and applications virtualization, your IT department will find Acrobat XI easy to deploy.
