Coffee Break With Fuelled: Microsoft Teams Video Calling

Microsoft Teams offers a range of useful features – do you know how to make the most of them? Check out this week’s episode of Coffee Break With Fuelled to learn all about the video calling capabilities offered by Microsoft Teams.

Video calling has become an undeniably necessary technology during the COVID-19 pandemic. The ability to talk in a virtual face-to-face fashion allows teams to stay connected, socialize, and communicate how they prefer to while working from home.

Using Microsoft Teams’ Chat Function

Last week we explored Microsoft Teams’ chat function, but for some conversations, text chatting isn’t the most efficient method of communicating. For a more direct interface with team members, you can video calls.

Features include:

  • You can place a call to a specific team member under the Call tab, or by selecting the video camera icon in the top right-hand corner of the chat window
  • Speed Dial lets you choose high-volume and regular contacts to save for easy access
  • During a video call, you can maintain the call while viewing other windows, which will minimize the video feed
  • You can add additional team members to an active call by selecting the Participants option on the call menu, and inviting other contacts in the right-hand menu
  • Clicking the ellipsis on the call menu will open up a range of additional options, such as the capability to record the meeting
  • Microsoft Teams also allows users to blur or replace their background, also found under the ellipsis on the call menu
  • You can also share your screen via the option on the call menu, which allows you to select whether you share your desktop or a specific window

Learning to use each feature of Microsoft Teams’ video calling function will help you and your team members retain some semblance of the social, personal workplace culture you were used to in the office.

Make sure to keep an eye out for future episodes of Coffee Break With Fuelled, in which we’ll further explore each of Microsoft Teams’ other features in greater detail.
